Goheen on the Biblical Story

“If we believe the good news of Christ, we are committed to the biblical story as the true story of the world… The biblical story is not to be understood simply as a local tale about a certain ethnic group or religion. It begins with the creation of all things and ends with renewal of all things. In between it offers an interpretation of the meaning of cosmic history. Moreover, it makes a comprehensive claim: our stories, our reality, the identity of the church- indeed all human and nonhuman reality- must find its place in this one story or nowhere.

To understand the church’s true identity and role in the world, we must attend to this story. What role is the church called to play in the great divine drama narrated in the Scripture? What identity does this story give to the people of God?”

-Michael W. Goheen, A Light to the Nations, 18-19.

About mjbutterworth

I love drinking/making coffee, making/listening to music, riding bicycles, and reading about theology. I also like blogs that talk about those things. Most of all, I love Jesus because his gospel has changed my life.
